Bright and District Historical Society Museum
The museum is in the historic Bright Railway Station. We have some rolling stock typical of that used on the old Ovens Valley Railway.
The museum covers railway history, gold mining history and also the social history of the area, with local family histories and a photographic collection.
There were many Chinese miners on the gold fields and the museum has a reconstructed Chinese Joss House based on the one destroyed in the Buckland Valley during the 1857 riots. We have a collection of artefacts from Chinese miners and some of these are currently on display in our main room.
The Museum and Battery are run entirely by volunteers. If you would like to volunteer, you would be most welcome. There are various tasks necessary to ensure the smooth running of both establishments, and we may have something that you would like to do.
